Unicam Focus
Building better citizens...
Studies have shown that a majority of teachers and parents believe that responsible citizenship should be a central goal of education, yet the vast majority of students have not taken classes in civics. However, recently adopted Nebraska social studies standards require that education about the United States and Nebraska governments be a part of secondary educational curricula. Teachers must now learn how to incorporate these standards into their own classrooms.
UniCAM Focus, a supplementary, online civics curriculum, can help teachers meet these new educational goals. Designed for grades 7-12, UniCAM Focus uses video interviews with lawmakers to educate students about representative democracy, state government, and the Nebraska Unicameral Legislature.
By providing an online curriculum in representative democracy, the Nebraska Legislature's UniCAM Focus program gives teachers the opportunity to meet Nebraska's educational standards, to give their students an inside look at democracy at work, and to help their students become better citizens.
