Purpose: | Geologists’ work helps ensure that critical facilities (bridges, dams, roads, tunnels) are built in structurally sound areas, and that critical natural resources (e.g. groundwater and soil) are well managed and not contaminated. Geology is observational, descriptive, objective and predictive. Geologists have advanced education and experience needed to investigate earthen materials and natural hazards that affect the public.
