Potential HarmWhile there would be no harm to the public if this occupation were removed from statute, the benefits to rural health care access would be eliminated before they were even allowed to be realized. Community Paramedics help fill gaps in healthcare in communities. They can act as an extension of a primary care physician. This can be done through partnerships to prevent hospital admission or readmission, or to provide assistance to less urgent or nonurgent 911 calls. Their work is often based on an assessment of the community’s needs, which is designed to assist with access to primary care compared to emergency services, especially in underserved communities.
