Explanation of Effectiveness:https://nebraskalegislature.gov/pdf/SurveyDocs/explanation1729022826.pdf
Potential HarmPotential for harm is high if the profession is not trained and certified as peer support workers may drift towards clinical roles or less formal roles; they may be engaged in work they are not trained for which can be exploitative and dangerous and misunderstanding of the role leads to peers place in roles more like technicians than supporters. Peer Support is an approved, covered non-clinical behavioral healthcare service benefit under the NDHHS Divisions of Behavioral Health, Medicaid & Long-term Care, Child & Family Services as well as private sector insurers such as Anthem BlueCross BlueShield. Peer Support is an evidenced-based practice by Centers for Medicare, Medicaid, and the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
