Potential HarmThe public could experience harm if veterinary technicians are not regulated. Having minimum standards for education and examinations to assess a practitioner’s competency reduce the potential for harm to the public. Currently statutes limit the ability of veterinarians to delegate performance of tasks related caring for animals to veterinary technicians and unlicensed assistants under the supervision of a veterinarian as provided in regulation. Without a credential these individuals would be considered unlicensed assistants and could perform fewer tasks which may affect the ability of the veterinarian to provide care and limit access to care.
