Purpose:The Mission of the Nebraska Board of Barber Examiners is to examine and provide for the licensing of qualified barbers and barber instructors, to enforce the sanitary rules regulating barber shops and barber schools, to develop and approve school curriculum and post-secondary educational requirements for barber instructors, to investigate and resolve consumer complaints and provide the public with a healthy and safe shop environment.

Qualifications Of Members:Each member shall be a practicing barber who has followed the occupation of barbering in this state for at least five years prior to hisher appointment, and who is actually engaged in the practice of barbering during the term of hisher appointment. Although, not required by statute, member are appointed from each congressional district.

Accomplishments

Since July 1, 2012:Board authority for licensing by credentials from other states and countries in addition to our current reciprocity agreements. Provide on-line courses for barber instructor educational program. Created a barber instructor educational course for barbers who are not able to instruct at a license barber school. Web site updated to provide all applications and current information for licensing and on-line payments for licenses and fees. Introduced and adopted revised statute for assisting barber students who qualify for federal student loans.
